Grupo de Rua bring their dance stylings to REDCAT later this month.

Rising Brazilian choreographer Bruno Beltrão and his company Grupo de Rua will perform at REDCAT next week as part of The Sharon Disney Lund Dance Series. The Rio de Janeiro-based Beltrão and his troupe of nine male performers infuse contemporary dance with hip-hop action.

Grupo de Rua’s latest work, H3, avoids the hip-hop clichés. The dancers turn in a more nuanced performance that includes moves borrowed from modern dance, breakdancing, krumping and even hints at parkour (the sport of acrobatic obstacle running).
