On Sunday (Nov. 7), The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts and the School of Theater embarked on an ambitious production of composer Iannis Xenakis’s opera Oresteia.

As part of The Wild Beast Concert series at CalArts, presented by Levitt Pavilions, the event brought together the CalArts and Santa Clarita communities for an evening of music by one of the pioneers of contemporary experimental and electronic music. Despite the chill in the fall air, more than 500 people came to listen to the rarely performed opera.

The staging was held in conjunction with the recent opening of the exhibition Iannis Xenakis: Composer, Architect, Visionary at MOCA Pacific Design Center. The celebration of the composer’s work will continue at REDCAT in January (28-30) during the CEAIT Festival’s Iannis Xenakis: Now and Tomorrow.
