Film Fridays: Charlie Haden Quartet West

The Film Fridays segment appears every Friday and features films and videos from students, faculty and alumni of the six schools at CalArts.

In today’s Film Fridays post, we feature a video of faculty member and jazz bassist Charlie Haden and his Quartet West. The quartet plays First Song, with Haden on bass; Gary Foster on tenor; Alan Broadbent on piano and Larence Marable on drums.

Haden founded the CalArts Jazz Program in 1982 and has long been a heavyweight of the genre, working with other jazz greats such as Ornette Coleman, Pat Metheny, John Coltrane and Stan Getz.

Tonight through Sunday (Sept. 2-4), the quartet will celebrate its 25th year by performing at the Catalina Jazz Club in Hollywood.
