Keep an Eye Out for New CalArts Student Newspaper

'CalArts Eye' - First Issue

The CalArts Eye, a brand-new, student-run newspaper celebrates its first printed issue with a launch party tonight (Feb. 28) in Tatum Lounge from 7-11 pm. The new publication covers creative topics by students from all six schools.

More about the newspaper from its creators:

The CalArts Eye is an uncensored, multi-métier, monthly publication created, composed and constructed by students, for students. Its staff and contributors consist of students from all six CalArts schools. It was conceived in October 2011 out of the collective goals of many students, alumni, faculty and staff to create a unified forum for students to connect, share and speak about community interests and issues. … The Eye gives students a place to showcase many talents, including different forms of writing, research, illustration design and creative administration across métiers.

The writing and planning sessions for the first issue began in January under the direction of Editor-in-Chief and Writing MFA student Lianna Kissinger-Virizlay. The paper is now open to contributions from students, faculty and staff—though management of content is restricted to students. Submissions may be emailed to calarts.eye@gmail.com.

The Eye will also be available via .pdf on the paper’s website and you can follow it on twitter.

Tonight’s event includes free beverages and cupcakes as well as a copy of the the first issue. Student bands Jupiter Jumps, KREation, DJ beforeman, Stupid Man Suit and Laura Jean Anderson are set to perform.
