Animation Block Party in Brooklyn this Weekend

The ninth annual Animation Block Party (ABP)—the largest animation festival on the East Coast—runs this weekend (July 27-29) at Rooftop Films and BAMcinématek in Brooklyn with a number of films by CalArts students, alumni and faculty on the film slate.

  • Faculty member Laura Heit’s The Deep Dark (6:54 min) screens during Friday’s opening night festivities at Rooftop Films.
  • The films, The Magical Theater (3:15 min) by Jovanna Tosello (Film/Video BFA 08) and Helganga (2:48 min) by Una Lorenzen (Film/Video MFA 09), are featured in the ABP International Shorts (Program Two) at BAMcinématek on Saturday.
  • Hole in the World (3:26 min) by George Metaxas (Film/Video MFA 12) is included Saturday’s ABP Eclectic Mix (Program One) at BAMcinématek.
  • Cutthroat Roundabout (3:54 min) by Sara Gunnarsdottir (Film/Video MFA 12) screens on Sunday during ABP Fresh Visions (Program Four) at BAMcinématek.
  • Avocados (5:10 min) by Kataneh Vahdani (Film/Video BFA 05, MFA 08) also screens on Sunday during the ABP Narrative Works (Program Three) at BAMcinématek.

The ABP 2012 jury includes Dan Meth, Matt Lee and CalArts faculty Maija Burnett.
