Performance artist Kevin Blechdom–Kristin Erickson, a member of the faculty of The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts–has composed the music for and stars in the digital opera Story of the Eye, which screens March 9 at the 20th Annual Chicago Underground Film Festival (CUFF).

Directed by Nicole Jefferson Asher, Story of the Eye is a feminist re-interpretation of the Georges Bataille novella of the same name, set as an opera. The film follows Georges, played by Graham Skipper, through his increasingly perverse sexual encounters with the vixen Simone (Erickson).

The Chicago Underground Film Festival is an annual event that features films that concentrate on the artistic, aesthetic and fun side of independent films. Founded in 1993, it promotes “defiantly independent visions” from film- and videomakers.

We posted the trailer (NSFW) as well as production stills from Story of the Eye, above.
