The Sumarr Reading Series returns this summer at Concord Artspace in Los Angeles. Named for the personification of summer in Norse mythology, the series is curated by poet and CalArts alumna Diana Arterian (Critical Studies MFA 11) and features readings from nearly 25 Los Angeles poets and writers. The next reading is on Sunday (July 7) from 3-5 pm.
Each event includes five readings as well as live music and a DJ set. This Sunday’s line-up includes CalArts alumni Kirsty Singer (Critical Studies MFA 10), Chris Muniz (Critical Studies MFA 99) as well as Vanessa Carlisle, Genevieve Kaplan and Ryan McIlvan. Music will be provided by Michael Navarette and DJ C.Hem.
The series is dedicated to “providing exposure for emerging writers in the Los Angeles area and to strengthen and solidify the literary community of Los Angeles.”
A Beutner Fellow while at CalArts, Arterian is now creator and Managing Editor of Ricochet, a publisher of poetry and prose chapbooks. Her own chapbook Death Centos is forthcoming from Ugly Duckling Presse.
More readings in the series are planned for July 28, August 11 and August 25. Check the Sumarr’s Facebook page for additional details.
