CalArtians Among Artists Selected for Made in L.A. 2014

The Hammer Museum recently announced the roster of 35 artists participating in Made in L.A. 2014, which The New York Times refers to as “the West Coast answer to the Whitney Biennial.”*

The forthcoming exhibition (June 15-Sept. 7) focuses once again on work created by emerging or under-recognized artists in the Los Angeles region, many of whom are CalArts alumni, faculty or former faculty.

From the Hammer Museum:

Made in L.A. 2014 will be installed in every gallery of the museum and debuts nearly all new painting, installation, video, sculpture, photography, and performances created specifically for the exhibition. There are 11 major new commissions for the exhibition and every artist has received an honorarium. The exhibition will be accompanied by a comprehensive hardcover catalogue, as well as a full roster of free public programming. Made in L.A. 2014 is organized by Hammer chief curator Connie Butler and independent curator [and CalArts faculty member] Michael Ned Holte.
