Galatea Explores the World of Silicone Dolls

Brittany Knupper’s ‘Galatea’ explores silicone sex dolls.

Son of Semele Ensemble in Los Angeles presents the premiere of Brittany Knupper’s (Theater MFA 12) Galatea tonight (Friday, Sept. 18) at 8 pm.

First mounted as Knupper’s thesis project at CalArts, the play focuses on three men who become the subject of a book about Real Dolls—silicone sex dolls. As the female writers of the book explore the men’s relationship with their Real Dolls, the play explores the men’s relationship with the writers and the real women in their lives.

Galatea stars Caitlin Teeley (Theater BFA 13), Richard Pluim (Theater MFA 13), Christie Harms (Theater MFA 13), Caitlin Ribbans (Theater BFA 14), Katherine Keyte (Theater BFA 14), Michael Ho (Theater BFA 13), Dave Huber and Ramon Camacho. Lynne Martens (Theater MFA 12) serves as costume designer, Lauren Sego (Theater BFA 14) as lighting designer and Andrew Lia (Theater MFA 13) as stage manager.

The production runs through Sept. 27.
