Commuter Dance Festival at CalArts

A teaser of ‘Recortes,’ which will be performed at CalArts Commuter Dance Festival.

The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts presents its ninth annual Commuter Dance Festival on Thursday and Friday (Oct. 1-2), with a dual purpose of showcasing the work of choreographers from the greater Los Angeles area and encouraging the exchange of creative processes between the educational and professional communities.

This year’s concert features Holly Johnston’s Ledges & Bones and No)one. Art House. The latter is a multidisciplinary art collective dedicated to producing, performing and curating “approachable and stimulating art.” No)one dancers are presenting excerpts of Gustavo Ramirez Sansano’s “Recortes,” which the collective premiered at Highways Performance Space in Santa Monica last year.

Ledges & Bones is a performance lab dedicated to developing original choreography that focuses on the “liberated body, the uncensored voice and to making dance from off the ledge.” Johnston, a renowned artist, choreographer, educator and movement researcher,  currently teaches contemporary dance technique at CalArts.
