#NeverAgain Film Event With the Nikkei Democracy Project

The CalArts community is welcome to join the newly formed CalArts Asian Students Alliance—in association with The Bridge and ArtChangeUS—for #NeverAgain: Remembering Japanese American Internment and Fighting for Justice Today, a film screening and potluck on March 16 in Langley Hall.

As part of International Education Week at CalArts, the film program features short works from the artist collective, the Nikkei Democracy Project. The organization’s mission is to highlight the history of Japanese American Internment and its relevance to current political events. One of the featured pieces is centered around the recent LAX protests against the Trump Administration’s travel and refugee ban and the protest leaders Vigilant Love, an organization helmed by a Japanese American and Muslim American woman in solidarity.

Renee Tajima, representing the Nikkei Democracy Project, leads the discussion on how artists can learn from historical events and find empowerment today to participate in the movement for a truly pluralistic America. Additional program speakers include Tani Ikeda, co-founder of imMEDIATe Justice and Lisa Dring from the Asian Student Alliance. Roberta Uno from ArtChangeUS moderates the program.
