On Wednesday, Jan. 24, baritone, composer, multi-instrumentalist and CalArts alumnus Ian Walker (Music BFA 15) presents Inner Selfies: New American Art Songs at ArtShare L.A. in Downtown Los Angeles.

Intended as a new take on the classical voice concert, Walker and pianist Milena Gligić meld storytelling, humor, poetry, classical music and theatrical performance, creating unfiltered snapshots of the inner life often overlooked in the age of the selfie.

Taking place in a 28,000-square-foot warehouse in the heart of the Arts District, the concert will feature music by contemporary American composers, including Mark Carlson, Tom Cipullo, Lori Laitman and Libby Larsen.

The performance marks Walker and Gligić’s first independent collaboration since performing together at Santa Barbara’s Music Academy of the West. A seasoned operatic and concert performer, Walker has recently performed with the Los Angeles Philharmonic, The Industry and Bach in the Subways. Gligić, from Belgrade, Serbia, is in her second year as a member of LA Opera’s Domingo-Colburn-Stein Young Artist Program.

A reception follows the concert.
