On Saturday (Feb. 2), X-TRA Contemporary Art Quarterly and Pitzer Art Galleries present the reading series X-TRA Forum #5: One Text Two Minutes at Pitzer College in Claremont, Calif.

Crafted with and for the exhibition Publishing Against the Grain, which opens on Saturday, the program gives 15 invited artists a two-minute reading from a piece in the exhibition. Expect readings to feel unrehearsed, anecdotal and conversational.

Participating CalArtians include: School of Art Dean Thomas Lawson, Art faculty Leslie Dick and alums Cathy Akers (Art MFA 06), Olga Koumoundouros (Art MFA 01) and Ming-Yuen Ma; as well as East of Borneo Executive Editor Stacey Allan.

Running until March 28, Publishing Against the Grain takes the form of a reading room, allowing visitors to double as participants — through thinking, reading or conversing. The exhibition highlights the state of publishing and art criticism as it exists today, through independent journals, experimental publications and websites and other forms. Hundreds of publications from countries spanning the globe, including the complete X-TRA archive, will immerse guests in intellectual discourse on art criticism.
