CalArts’ Founders Ball This Saturday

The above video is of the Hands On’Semble performing Shradhanjali (Part 3), a composition by John Bergamo, at CalArts in 2008.

Every year, CalArts’ Alumni Association pays tribute to individuals who make a significant contribution to the lives of CalArts alumni and the greater arts community. On Saturday (Nov. 14), alumni, faculty, staff and friends from across the country will gather for the annual Founders Ball at the Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) to celebrate this year’s honorees.

  • The recipients of the Lulu Award, which recognizes community members who embody the founding spirit of CalArts, are John Bergamo, former faculty in the Herb Alpert School of Music, and Cristyne Lawson, former Dean of the Lund School of Dance.
  • The Nellie Award, which recognizes alumni who have made significant contributions to CalArts and the arts community, will be awarded to Betzy Bromberg (Film/Video MFA 80), Director of CalArts’ Program in Film and Video.
  • Alumni Association honorary memberships will be given to V. Shannon Clyne, CalArts Trustee Emeritus, and Leo Hobaica, Assistant Dean of CalArts’ School of Film/Video.
