Actors Showcase: Highlighting Talent from CalArts’ School of Theater

On Monday (April 19), 31 graduating MFA and BFA students from CalArts’ School of Theater will hit the boards of the Falcon Theater in Burbank for the school’s annual Actors Showcase. It’s the West Coast edition for Showcase, having already been held at Ailey Citigroup Theater in New York last month.

“Showcase is a chance for CalArts to promote the talent of its actors before a select number of industry professionals, including producers, agents, managers, casting directors and theater companies,” said CalArts producer Michael Vanderbilt (Theater MFA 11). “It’s a first step in transitioning to a career in acting.”

Directed by CalArts performance faculty Craig Belknap and Lewis Palter, Showcase features 21 scenes from both published and original plays. Dana Gourrier (Theater MFA 10) wrote two scenes for Showcase, including one–“Misconduct”–that she will be performing on Monday. We talked to Gourrier and her partner Julian Evens (Theater BFA 10) about their scene and characters (above).

We also caught up with Lawrence McEvoy (Theater BFA 10) and Kathleen Heverin (Theater MFA 10) about theirs:

Actors Showcase is open to the public, although industry professionals will be seated first. To make a reservation, please e-mail showcase@calarts.edu.
