Three exhibits this week at CalArts highlight the undergraduate and graduate work of the School of Art’s Graphic Design program, culminating on Thursday (May 13).  The show, Happy Medium (In One Form or Another), showcases work from the 2010 CalArts MFA Graphic Design program. The designers drew influence from “the transformations which inherently occur in graphic design via reproductions and multiple format changes.” The MFA pieces on display in the gallery challenge the traditional notions of graphic design, especially with the advent of new technology. (See the video we posted below by MFA student Jennifer Rider.)

Happening concurrently (in the adjacent gallery) is the BFA exhibit Illusions/Delusions: CalArts 2010 Graphic Design End of Year Show, which features work from 54 undergraduate designers. Later in the evening, the annual Undergraduate & Graduate Motion Show screens in the Bijou Theater on campus.
