CalArts has a reputation for its colorful, nontraditional graduation ceremony, and Friday’s (May 21) celebration of the class of 2010 lived up to its expectations. Caps and gowns are not required, and students are encouraged to express themselves creatively.
We took a number of photos of the ceremony and behind the scenes. Highlights from the day included: conferring honorary Doctor of Arts degrees to educator/musician William M. Lowman and sound artist/composer Trimpin; awarding diplomas to more than 400 BFA and MFA students from the Institute’s six schools; and finally a metal-music-themed, wedding ceremony between two Art MFA graduates Orlando M. Tirado Amador and Margaret Haines, presided over by School of Art Dean Thomas Lawson.
Check back tomorrow for video highlights from the day.
