Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) will be kicking off its eighth season on Sept. 16 with projects in both the theater and gallery. International artists of diverse backgrounds and disciplines from many artistic realms, ranging from contemporary visual, performing, to media art, will be featured.
“We are launching our most international and daring program yet,” says Mark Murphy, Executive Director of REDCAT. “The work embodies the spirit of interdisciplinary collaboration that is the core of our mission, including new premieres and collaborations that celebrate the inventive partnership of great creative minds.”
The season opening will feature a world premiere by legendary Indonesian choreographer Sardono W. Kusumo in collaboration with renowned lighting designer Jennifer Tipton. Also on the program is the L.A. debut presentation of two Chinese video art pioneers, Zhang Peili and Zhu Jia.
