Orkestar MÉZÉ Playing ‘Peasant Funk’ this Weekend

Milen Kirov, a DMA performer/composer candidate at The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, is teaching jazz and musicianship classes during the fall semester. But the Bulgarian-born musician can get funky when he wants to.

This weekend, Kirov brings his Orkestar MÉZÉ to the Westside of LA Labor Day Weekend for a little Bulgarian “peasant funk.” Special guest on the bill is Kirov’s father, Todor, a well-known Bulgarian musicologist and scholar who’ll be playing the gadulka.

Not sure what peasant funk sounds like? Check out the above video for Orkestar MÉZÉ performing “Buchimish” by Todor Kirov at Rusty’s Surf Ranch, Santa Monica Pier earlier this month.
