Tabla master Swapan Chaudhuri, who chairs the World Music Performance programs at The Herb Alpert School of Music at CalArts, presents a multimedia concert on Thursday (Feb. 24) at the Los Angeles Contemporary Museum of Art. In the interactive work, Chaudhuri, one of the most highly renown tabla players in the world, will examine how the inspiring atmosphere of Lucknow, India, has contributed to the evolution of the tabla.
With guest performances by vocal and Kathak artists, and moderated by Robin Sukhadia, Chaudhuri illustrates the history of his training through music, images, geography and stories. The event will celebrate LACMA’s current exhibition, India’s Fabled City: The Art of Courtly Lucknow.
