Stefan Żeromski of the Nederlands Dans Theater Teaches Master Class at CalArts

The Nederlands Dans Theater (NDT) is one of Europe’s most prestigious dance companies, founded in 1959, after 22 dancers broke away from the Nederlands Ballet to create a more modern repertoire.

That tradition of nontraditional ballet continues more than 50 years later, and Stefan Żeromski, NDT ballet master and former principal dancer, came to CalArts in late March to hold a master class for the next generation of dancers. The troupe was in Los Angeles for performances on March 23-24 at the Dorothy Chandler Pavilion.

After being introduced by CalArts faculty member Glen Eddy, himself an NDT alumnus (having danced with the company for 12 1/2 years), Żeromski took over the Repertory Master Class, filled with mostly BFA and a few MFA dancers.

Żeromski led the students through the paces of the piece Whereabouts Unknown, created by former NDT Artistic Director Jirí Kylián. 24700 features a few excerpts from the class in action in the above video.
