Tomorrow and Friday (Oct. 6-7), The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts presents the Fifth Annual Commuter Dance Festival. This year’s festival, held on the Institute’s campus, features the choreography of Randé Dorn (MFA Dance 00), Arianne MacBean (MFA Interschool 99) and Alpert Award-winner Victoria Marks. The festival encourages the exchange of creative processes between the local educational and professional dance communities.
A 2011 CHIME Award winner, MacBean presents a new version of her piece We Can’t Get There From Here, which is “about the longing for, and the failure of, action and language to bring mutual understanding.”
Dorn is founder of the Randé Dorn Dance Company. Its recent performance in San Diego’s Annual Trolley Dances was filmed for a documentary broadcast on PBS.
A Guggenheim Fellow, Marks’ choreography was recently featured in REDCAT’s NOW Festival and her work “consider[s] the politics of citizenship, as well as the representation of both virtuosity and disability.”
The video above is a recent performance of Dorn’s work, Quietly, Cautiously, Painfully.
