Lauded Playwright David Greenspan Previews New Work at CalArts Tomorrow

Praised by The New York Times as “the Downtown art world’s greatest secret weapon [in the battle against theatrical mediocrity],” New York playwright, director, and performer David Greenspan brings a preview of a new work to CalArts tomorrow morning (Nov. 9). The Obie Award-winner will present an exclusive preview performance of Poetics and Plays for the School of Theater at 9:45 am in the MOD Theater.

Greenspan’s latest solo performance, which goes up at the Getty Villa in Malibu this weekend (Nov. 11-13), juxtaposes the ancient and the modern.

A short synopsis from the Getty Villa:

Poetics and Plays combines two of the most influential and antithetical treatises ever composed on the nature of theater—Aristotle’s Poetics and Gertrude Stein’s lecture Plays—in an unexpectedly enthralling evening of solo performance.

A 2002 CalArts/Alpert Award in the Arts winner, Greenspan has received playwriting fellowships from the Guggenheim, Jerome, Joyce Mertz-Gilmore, and Charles Revson Foundations.
