CalArts Animation Tribute at LA Animation Festival

LA Animation Festival

The 3rd Annual Los Angeles Animation Festival (LAAF)—the largest international animation festival in California—takes over the Regent Showcase Theater in Hollywood this week (March 7-11).

CalArtian filmmakers play a central role at this year’s festival. On Sunday, the tribute program, The CalArts Legacy, features short animations by School of Film/Video students and recent alumni as well as industry veterans, including John Lasseter (BFA 79), Pete Docter (BFA 90) Henry Selick (MFA 77) and Stephen Hillenburg (MFA 92).

In a separate event on Friday, there’s cast and crew screening of the feature-length film, The Iron Giant, followed by a Q&A with director and CalArts alumnus Brad Bird (BFA 76).
