Los Angeles singer and songwriter, alumna Julia Holter (Music/IM MFA 09) released her latest album, Ekstasis, on March 8. Since then, the record has received critical acclaim from numerous critics, including the BBC, NPR Music and Pitckfork Media.
Earlier this week, Holter released a video for the album’s track Moni Mon Amie, which was directed by fellow alumna Yelena Zhelezov (MFA Puppetry 10).
More about the music video from Zhelezov:
The video for Moni Mon Amie interprets the song as a lyrical appeal to the unattainable other, and a conversation that’s being had with oneself. The longing transforms the perception of the everyday, turning each moment into a poetic landscape in which the miniature and the gigantic become interchangeable. Julia plays the subject and the object of desire in this video.
Filmed at the Downtown LA experimental art space, The Wulf, the video project includes several CalArtian collaborators, including editor and producer Aleigh Lewis (Film/Video MFA 10), colorist and sound designer Joanna Leitch (Film/Video MFA 12) and stylist Susanna Battin (Theater BFA 10). The video also features cinematography by Amanda Treyz as well as production design by Ayse Arf.
Holter also announced her North American and European tour dates this week, starting with a record release show in Los Angeles on April 1 at Atwater Crossing with composer Mark So (Music MFA 06). Below is a list of her concert dates in April:
