During its interim session this week, the CalArts School of Theater partnered with the Show Sage company to hold a two-day training workshop for both current students and industry professionals on the new WATCHOUT audio-visual production and playback system.
The seminar, made possible by a $25,000 donation of computers and software by Show Sage, taught artists to manipulate and orchestrate stills, animations, graphics, video, sound and live feeds into a single show across multiple visual displays for multimedia presentations, art installations and theater environments.
Last year, then-CalArts students Emilie Sabath (Film/Video, IM MFA 12) and Ray Sun (Theater, IM MFA 12) created Isla—”a three-channel narrative video installation with live performance exploring metaphysics, geologic+emotional time, and possible lost twin souls”—using the system.
