With the CalArts School of Film/Video Showcase wrapping up this week, there’s another chance to check out student animated films tonight in Los Angeles.
Now in its fourth year, Cinefamily hosts Autarky: Frontier Animation, a screening of 26 works from mostly second-year BFA students from the Experimental Animation and Character Animation Programs. As the title of the event suggests (“autarky,” meaning the quality of being self-sufficient), the compilation of films was curated by the CalArts students themselves.
The late-night screening, which begins at 11:59 pm, focuses on bringing work from the students’ hands directly to the screen. Pieces include stop-motion animation, drawing, painting, video, flicker films and text-based films.
