Frozen, The Croods Earn Oscar Nominations for CalArtians

The nominations were announced early this morning (Jan. 16) at the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences in Beverly Hills for the 86th Annual Academy Awards, and CalArtians Chris Buck (Film/Video 78) and Chris Sanders (Film/Video 84) earned nominations for Frozen and The Croods, respectively.

It’s already been a good week for Buck, who, along with Jennifer Lee, picked up the Best Animated Feature award at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. Frozen is his second Oscar nomination, having previously been nominated for Best Animated Feature Film for Surf’s Up (2007).

The Croods marks Sanders’ third Best Animated Feature Oscar nomination. He was also nominated for How to Train Your Dragon (2010) and Lilo & Stitch (2002).

The entire category of nominees for Best Animated Feature Film is listed below, alphabetically:

  • The Croods: Chris Sanders, Kirk DeMicco and Kristine Belson
  • Despicable Me 2: Chris Renaud, Pierre Coffin and Chris Meledandri
  • Ernest & Celestine: Benjamin Renner and Didier Brunner
  • Frozen: Chris Buck, Jennifer Lee and Peter Del Vecho
  • The Wind Rises: Hayao Miyazaki and Toshio Suzuki

The Oscars will be televised live on ABC on March 2 at 7 pm ET/4 pm PT.

Frozen also earned an Oscar nod for original song with “Let It Go.”
