The School of Film/Video’s Experimental Animation Program launches a new visiting artist series on four Fridays this fall. The bi-weekly series of day-long lectures and workshops will introduce students and CalArts community members to a diverse group of experimental animators working in a variety of techniques and aesthetic styles. The first visiting artist, Andrew Thomas Huang, comes to CalArts on Friday (Sept. 26).
The Los Angeles-based artist and filmmaker has created music videos for Bjork, Atoms for Peace (above) and Sigur Ros. His work has been showcased at the Museum of Contemporary Art Los Angeles, the Saatchi & Saatchi New Directors Showcase at Cannes Lions, the Hammer Museum as well as in various publications.
The first half of each visit consists of a formal presentation of the artist’s work, followed by a Q&A. (These lectures are open to the public.) The second half includes a technical workshop designed by the visiting artist for Experimental Animation students.
Below is the Experimental Animation Visiting Artist Series Fall 2014 schedule. All lectures will be held in Langley Hall from 1-4 pm:
- Sept. 26: Andrew Thomas Huang
- Oct. 10: Vince McKelvie
