The biannual art and fashion publication Garage Magazine has organized an eBay sale to benefit CalArts. The auction, which opens Jan. 25, is called “The Garage Sale,” and will feature donated items from artists Richard Philips and Jeff Koons, designer Miuccia Prada of Prada and Miu Miu and Academy Award nominated actor, writer and former visiting faculty James Franco.
Garage said in a release that the sale is structured “in the tradition of the American garage sale. Thirteen of the world’s most renowned artists and creative minds rummaged through the forgotten corners of their homes to uncover long lost treasures to auction in support of arts education.”
Among the pieces on offer are a customized surfboard by Richard Phillips, an inflatable dolphin courtesy of Jeff Koons, and a “mixed-media artwork” by James Franco, whose garage is undoubtedly filled with that kind of thing.
Fundraising platform Auction Cause coordinates the sale, “creating a virtual front lawn accessible to millions of potential bidders rather than a few curious neighbors.”
“The Garage Sale” runs through Feb. 3. The items will be posted online closer to the start of the auction.
