On Wednesday night (Jan. 28) from 7-10 pm, the CalArts Graphic Design Program presents its annual T-shirt Show in the Main Gallery. Fifty-six t-shirt designs by student, faculty and alumni designers will be available for purchase, with proceeds benefiting the program.
The shirts—printed on white, sky blue and grey tees in sizes S, M and L—are priced at $15. This year, tote bags with selected designs will also be available for $10.
The 2015 theme is “Pop-up Shop,” a reference to nomadic/temporary retail spaces. Shirts and bags will be displayed on nets in the Main Gallery, which is a new location for the show.
Organized by third-year BFA students, CalArts students were invited to vote on their favorite shirt designs via social media to increase student involvement, say organizers Kennis Wong (Art BFA 16) and Karen Hong (Art BFA 16). The top 15 favorite designs received two extra tote prints each. Designers prepared the screens last week and printed the garments on Saturday (Jan. 24).
