Last week (March 9-13), The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance held its second annual Dance Career Development Week at CalArts. The goal for the week was to help CalArts students increase their awareness of the dance community in Los Angeles, practice their audition skills and gain exposure for their work.
Set during the same week of their spring reviews, the dance students took part in a diverse range of real and mock auditions with Los Angeles-based choreographers. On March 12, three mock auditions were conducted by guest artists: Choreographer Katrina Amato, KIN Dance Company Artistic Directors Frit Fuller (BFA 84, MFA 88) and Frat Fuller (BFA 86) and Ledges & Bones Dance Project Artistic Director Holly Johnston. (Above are photos of the mock auditions by Institute photographer Rafael Hernandez.)
Other guests during this year’s Dance Career Development Week included:
- Laura Karlin, artistic director of Invertigo Dance Theatre;
- John Todd, actor, director and choreographer;
- Christopher Bordenave, founder/head curator, No)one. Art House; and
- Diavolo dance company Founder Jacques Heim (MFA 91) and Executive Director Jennifer Cheng, which we posted about yesterday.
