CalArts School of Theater alumna Alison Brie (BFA 05) is set to star in Netflix’s female wrestling series G.L.O.W. The 10-episode comedy series was picked up by Netflix in May and is executive produced by Jenji Kohan, creator of Emmy-winning series Orange is the New Black.
The TV show G.L.O.W. (Gorgeous Ladies of Wrestling) is inspired by the true story of a popular 80s female wrestling league that toured live shows and had a self-titled show that ran until the 90s. Brie plays the fictionalized Ruth, an out-of-work actress whose last attempt to find fame leads her into the glitter and spandex world of female wrestling.
Working for Netflix is already in Brie’s wheelhouse, as she voices multiple characters on the critical-favorite animated comedy, BoJack Horseman. G.L.O.W. marks Brie’s regular return to TV since her role in NBC’s Community. Highly anticipated, the new series combines Brie’s comedic genius and Kohan’s powerfully subversive writing. It could be another binge-worthy Netflix series.
From comedy to British drama, Brie’s talents span across different acting genres. Watch the trailer below for Dr. Thorne, the newest television series by Downton Abbey creator, Julian Fellowes. Brie is featured in three episodes of the series in the role of Ms. Dunstable.
