On Sunday (April 23), three multi-talented artists—CalArts alumna Tanya Haden (Film/Video MFA 98), her husband Jack Black and Shana Lutker—are special guests at Listening Party #25, part of the Listening Party series created by The Society for the Activation of Social Space through Art and Sound (SASSAS).
Listening Party #25 is hosted by George and Judy Penner at their home in Pasadena, Calif. Tickets, which include food, drinks, and performances, can be purchased online through SASSAS’ website. Proceeds from the event benefit SASSAS and the sound. concert series.
The organization SASSAS supports experimental art and sound practices in the Greater Los Angeles area with a wide range of music programs and events. The Listening Party Series brings people together in an intimate dinner party setting to hear favorite sounds and songs from well-known artists, writers and musicians. Past featured artists include many CalArts alumni and faculty such as Catherine Opie (Art MFA 88), Jim Shaw (Art MFA 78), Mike Kelley (Art MFA 78), and School of Art faculty Charles Gaines and Sharon Lockhart.
As a visual artist and a performer Tanya Haden has exhibited widely at Rosamund Felsen Gallery in Santa Monica, Las Cienegas Projects and Angstrom Gallery in Los Angeles, and with Janet Levy Projects in New Orleans, Louisiana. Haden has performed with artists Mike Kelley and Marnie Weber, including vocal and cello performances for Weber’s band, Spirit Girls. She also performs with her sisters, Rachel and Petra in The Haden Triplets and has contributed to several book publication/exhibition projects curated by Steven Hull, including Ab Ovo, Nothing Moments Project and Song Poems.
