Alternative rock band Cilience performs tonight (Thursday, Sept. 26), at The Mint in Los Angeles. Formed in 2016 at CalArts, Cilience includes band members Ian Stahl (Music MFA 17) on vocals and guitar, drummer Michael Anetsberger (Music MFA 17), Michael “Janzie” Janz (Music MFA 19) on synths and bassist Eric DeLuca.

On their website, the band defines its name as “recognizing those you meet as individuals with their own stories and complex lives.” Inspired by folklore and literature, their lyrics address social issues such as climate change and more specifically, drought in California. Their latest single, Event Horizon, “…is a call to all people to stand for tolerance, understanding, and humanity,” according to the concert program.

Cilience has toured throughout California, playing at famed venues such as the Viper Room and the Troubadour in West Hollywood, Winston’s OB in San Diego and the Hotel Utah Saloon in San Francisco.

Their concert at The Mint begins at 8:15 pm with a lineup that also includes the bands Drive!Drive!, Pink Roses and Laureline. Cilience is set to take the stage at 10:15 pm.

Check out their music video, Rain Dance, directed and edited by CalArts alum Xanthe Parajillo (Art BFA 16) below:
