Artist, designer and educator Brigette Barrager (Film/Video BFA 07) has two upcoming events in support of her latest children’s book Vlad the Rad. Barrager holds a reading and book signing on Saturday, Oct. 5 at the Barnes & Noble at the Grove in Los Angeles. On Sunday, Oct. 6, she will host a reading, live drawing and book signing at the Mrs. Nelson’s Book Companies booth at the Orange County Children’s Book Festival.
Vlad the Rad follows the titular mischievous young vampire, who is less interested in his spookiness lessons than shredding on his skateboard. Brought to life by Barrager’s colorful and whimsical art style, Vlad learns to integrate his schoolwork with his love of gnarly board tricks. Vlad the Rad was released in July by Random House Books for Young Readers.
Barrager formerly worked for Pixar and Walt Disney Animation Studios and currently serves as a Character Animation faculty member in the School of Film/Video. She has illustrated more than 25 books, including Uni the Unicorn by Amy Krouse Rosenthal, Florabelle by Sasha Quinton and Fred’s Big Feelings: The Life and Legacy of Mister Rogers by Laura Renauld. Barrager is the recipient of the 2018 Christopher Award for Distinguished Achievement for her illustration work on Pocket Full of Colors: The Magical World of Mary Blair, Disney Artist Extraordinaire by Amy Guglielmo and Jacqueline Tourville.
