Aaron Axelrod (Art BFA 07) brings his highly anticipated live visual art show Melting Rainbows this Friday, Feb. 14 and Saturday, Feb. 15 to Wisdome LA in Downtown Los Angeles.
In Melting Rainbows, Axelrod melds video art, performance art, and photography into a psychedelic spectacle of color. The 360 degree VR show features immersive art installations and DJ sets performed by special guests, as well as food, drinks, and merchandise.
Melting Rainbows was conceived as a short experimental film, but was eventually picked up by Myspace for a nationally televised ad campaign that ran for a year on MTV. The piece has since evolved into a live performance including flashing lights, augmented audio, and music. At Wisdome, audiences will be able to watch a projection of a large orb’s surface as Axelrod attacks it with paint. The show is a constant work in progress, emphasizing the creative process over a definitive final result.
Axelrod is an LA-based artist whose work has been described by LA Weekly as “explicitly noisy and outrageous.” His work has been exhibited in galleries across the globe, and in 2016, he became the first artist to have a solo show at Barnsdall Art Park and The Frank Lloyd Wright Hollyhock House with his survey exhibition Dark Matter. Axelrod’s work has been included in campaigns by entities like The Walt Disney Company, Coachella, Swarovski, Apple, The Tonight Show, Montblanc, and Roche Bobois.
