The School of Theater’s company of 42 graduating actors travels to the bright lights of New York City this week for the 2020 CalArts Actors Showcase. The New York edition takes place on March 4 at The Ailey Citigroup Theater at The Joan Weill Center for Dance.
A rite of passage for most CalArts actors, the showcases in New York and later at the Burbank Colony Theater in Los Angeles (March 23), serve to help the transition from training to professional work.
The actors perform prepared scenes from both published and original plays in front of a live audience of producers, agents, managers, casting directors, and theater companies. A video element is also included in the showcase so that industry professionals can view the students and their work on screen.
Theater director and CalArts faculty Bart DeLorenzo directs the showcase with additional mentorship from CalArts faculty Mirjana Jokovic, director of Programs in Performance and head of MFA Acting, as well as Andrea LeBlanc and Damian D. Lewis, heads of BFA acting.
RSVPs are needed to attend the New York and Los Angeles showcases. Receptions with the actors follow all sessions.
