Gallery nights. Mini-Fridays. Start of the weekend.
No matter what you called Thursday nights at CalArts, you knew that each week, there’d be performances, openings, receptions, and surprises for all who attended. While the COVID-19 pandemic put in-person campus activities on pause this spring, a team of CalArts faculty and alumni have been working behind-the-scenes to resurrect Thursday nights in the era of social distance.
Launching tomorrow (Thursday, May 21) is thurs.night, a live showcase site of online experimental work. The site goes online for viewing of performances and exhibitions from 7-10 pm PDT. The weekly curated events—performances, concerts, screenings, readings and art shows— will run for six consecutive Thursday nights.
The site will feature both livestreamed events and pre-recorded work, and include links to external events by CalArts students and alumni. It includes several rooms where guests can wander through and choose their own adventures during the night.
Right now, thurs.night is an open framework ready to be filled with new work, old work, collaborations, live performances, curated events, or class projects. If you’re interested in showing your work on an upcoming thurs.night fill out this form. If you have any questions you can contact thurs.night@calarts.edu for more details.
Bring your friends, bring your beverages, and we’ll see you on thurs.night.
