Patrick Harpin to Produce Animated Netflix Series My Dad the Bounty Hunter

Patrick Harpin (Film/Video BFA 11) will serve as an executive producer on My Dad the Bounty Hunter, an upcoming action-comedy Netflix series created by animator Everett Downing Jr.

The CG-animated series follows the galaxy’s toughest bounty hunter, who has managed to keep his identity a secret from his family on Earth until his two children “accidentally hitch a ride into outer space and crash his latest mission.” The series will feature the voice talents of Russell Hornsby (The Hate U Give), Yvonne Orji (Insecure), Priah Ferguson (Stranger Things), Yvette Nicole Brown (Community), JeCobi Swain (Troop Zero), Leslie Uggams (Deadpool), Rob Riggle (The Hangover), and Jim Rash (Community).

“We can’t wait to share our brainchild with the world,” Downing and Harpin shared in a statement to The Wrap. “My Dad the Bounty Hunter is a love letter to animation, science fiction, and Black families rolled into a crazy action-comedy. We threw everything we love about sci-fi into this show, but it’s the family at the center of the story that we’re most excited about.”

Harpin is a writer and director known for his work on Moonrise Kingdom (2012), Ice Age: Continental Drift (2012), Hotel Transylvania 2 (2015), and The Emoji Movie (2017). Downing co-directed Academy Award-winning short Hair Love with CalArts alum Bruce W. Smith (Film/Video BFA 83).
