On Feb. 2, the nominees of the 52nd NAACP Image Awards were officially announced. The awards show honors BIPOC artists across TV, music, film, and literature. Among this year’s nominees are several CalArtians.
CalArts alum and Trustee Don Cheadle (Theater BFA 86) was nominated for Outstanding Actor in a Comedy Series for his role as Mo Monroe in Showtime’s Black Monday.
Three films directed by CalArtians were nominated in the Outstanding Animated Picture category: Netflix’s Over the Moon, directed by CalArts alum Glen Keane (Film/Video BFA 74); Disney/Pixar’s Soul, directed by Pete Docter (Film/Video BFA 90) and Kemp Powers; and Dreamworks’ Trolls World Tour, directed by CalArtian Walt Dohrn. Docter was also nominated for Outstanding Writing in a Motion Picture alongside co-writers Powers, and Mike Jones.
The 52nd NAACP Image Awards is set to air on BET, CBS, and MTV on Saturday, March 27, at 8 pm ET.
