On April 16, artist, composer, and producer McLean Macionis (Music MFA 19) released Resurfaced, his debut EP under the moniker Alighted. The EP’s four tracks are composed of a warm blend of analog sounds, raw field recordings, and atmospheric granular textures.

Mainly inspired by the journey Macionis underwent during a personal health crisis and cancer diagnosis, the album is a “unified odyssey complete with moments of hardship and bliss,” according to his Bandcamp.

Reflecting on the EP’s title track and lead single, Resurfaced, Macionis said:

In hindsight, I can say with all certainty that my experience with cancer brought about more positive outcomes than negative. The title track reflects the profound and indescribable freedom that comes from facing your own mortality and learning to celebrate the beautiful, unpredictable, and temporary experience that is life.

Macionis is also one half of the the hybrid electronic duo NMND, which he formed with fellow CalArtian and vocalist-composer Mana Contractor (Music MFA 20).
