On Friday, May 14, at 6 pm PDT, CalArts livestreams the 2021 virtual graduation ceremony, Ethereal Expedition. More than 300 graduates will celebrate the conclusion of their studies at CalArts and will be conferred their degrees.
This year’s keynote speaker is CalArts alum and trustee Ramsey Naito (Art MFA 95), president of Nickelodeon Animation. She is also a member of Women in Animation, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS), and the Producers Guild of America (PGA). In 2018, Naito received an Academy Award nomination and a PGA Award nomination for DreamWorks’ The Boss Baby (2017), on which she served as producer.
Once the ceremony ends, the CalArts community is invited to a virtual reality after party. As part of the Ethereal Expedition theme, the graduation team created a 3D VR pool party, hosted at a virtual Chouinard Hall pool. The VR pool party works in 2D and 3D, so a VR headset is not required to join. Even in 2D, you can walk around, pick up objects, play games, interact with others, and discover all the CalArts “Easter Eggs” in the world. Visit the graduation website to learn more about the after party.
Tune into the livestream on Friday, May 14, at 6 pm PDT on our website: calarts.edu/graduation.
And for those who can’t make it, or want to watch it again, the Virtual Graduation Ceremony will be available as a “video-on-demand” the week following graduation.
Congratulations to the CalArts class of 2021!
