The Art Matters Foundation has launched its inaugural regranting program Artist2Artist, in which grantees have the opportunity to award grants to their fellow artists. Among the 2021 Artist2Artist Fellows are numerous CalArtians and Herb Alpert Award in the Arts (HAIAA) recipients.
Through its fellowship program, the foundation seeks to support artists who push aesthetic and social boundaries in their works. The criteria was expanded this year to include culture workers under the “artist” umbrella. The foundation’s board chose 13 alumni grantees to receive both a fellowship and the ability to designate peer fellows, resulting in 36 total fellowship recipients.
The 2021 CalArtian fellows include:
Cassils (Art-IM MFA 02)
Lauren Halsey (Art BFA 12)
Rheim Alkadhi (Art BFA 94)
Karina Esperanza Yanez (Art BFA 13)
Scott Oshima (Art BFA 12)
Rijin Sahakian (former CalArts Visiting Faculty)
Other grantees and past recipients of the Herb Alpert Award in the Arts include:
Mel Chin (HAIAA Visual Art 1995)
Emily Jacir (HAIAA Visual Art 2011)
Daniel Alexander Jones (HAIAA Theater 2006)
