Author and educator Brian Kiteley kicks off the 2011-12 MFA Writing Program’s Visiting Artists Series at CalArts with talks and lectures scheduled for today and tomorrow.
Tonight in Butler Building #4 from 7-9:30 pm, Kiteley discusses his works, including his third and most recent novel, The River Gods (2009, FC2 books) and The 4 A.M. Breakthrough (2009, Writer’s Digest Books) a compendium of innovative fiction writing exercises and advice. Currently, Kiteley is working on a book of travel memories while on leave from the University of Denver, where he serves as a Professor of English and Creative Writing.
On Friday (Sept. 23) at 2 pm in the CalArts Library, Kiteley presents the lecture, Between the Lines: Reading Craft, Writing Exercises. By putting writing exercises in a context, Kiteley helps the writer “[read] between the lines”—finding information that reveals creative preoccupations to help hone the craft.
Both events are free and open to the public.
