CalArtians Isabel Salazar (MFA Theater 13) and Michael Yichao Wang (MFA Theater 13) are among the recipients of this year’s Michael Kanin Playwriting Awards. Administered by the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival, the awards recognize and celebrate the nation’s outstanding student playwrights.
Salazar won the KCACTF Latino Playwriting Award for her play No Comas Tomates antes de Dormir porque Tendrás Pesadillas, while Wang won the Paul Stephen Lim Asian-American Playwriting Award for Lunatic Sun and Goose. This is the second time that Wang has won the award; his play hide/seek took top honors last year.
Both Salazar and Wang will attend the Kennedy Center American College Theater Festival next month in Washington, D.C. They’ve also earned memberships in the Dramatists Guild and the Playwrights’ Center of Minneapolis, as well as a two-week professional development residency.
