On Tuesday (April 8), the LA Phil New Music Group joins new music ensembles wild Up and the International Contemporary Ensemble (ICE) at Disney Concert Hall for a concert, titled Maximum Minimalism. As part of the LA Phil’s ongoing Minimalist Jukebox series, the marathon concert appeals to minimalism “junkies” with a program “adding up to hours and hours” of varying sub-genres of minimal music—allowing audience members to come and go as they please. Among the pieces on the program is CalArts alumnus composer Andrew McIntosh’s (Music MFA 08) 2012 microtonal composition, Silver and White.

McIntosh will perform viola on his work, and will be joined by wild Up members trumpeter Jonah Levy (Music 11), trombonist Matt Barbier (Music MFA 10), cellist Derek Stein (Music MFA 10) and percussionist Matt Cook (Music MFA 10).

The piece will be McIntosh’s second performed at the LA Phil. In December, the Green Umbrella series concert L.A. Now: New Angeleno Composers featured his Etude IV from Symmetry Etudes, along with a new work by alumna composer/singer Julia Holter (Music/IM MFA 09).
