On Wednesday (Oct. 15), CalArts President Steven D. Lavine moderates a panel on Los Angeles’ numerous conventional and unconventional arts collectives at REDCAT. Titled It Takes A City: Artists and Collectives in Los Angeles, the panel discusses the challenges, rewards and impact of these emerging collectives.
Panelists include Yuval Sharon, founder of experimental opera company The Industry, which last year took over LA’s historic Union Station and staged the critically acclaimed “immaterial” opera Invisible Cities; Chris Rountree, director of modern music collective wild Up, whose adaptable lineup includes numerous CalArts alumni; Lillian Barbeito, co-founder of fast-rising dance ensemble BODYTRAFFIC and one of The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance’s guest artists for its inaugural Dance Career Development Week; and CalArts Art Program co-director Michael Ned Holte, curator of the ongoing New Zealand art show TL;DR.
Above is a trailer for The Industry’s Invisible Cities, which featured a number of CalArtians, and below is a video for BODYTRAFFIC’s latest work, Kyle Abraham’s Kollide.
