CalArts, USC Team up to Perform New Orchestral Works by LA Composers on Saturday

On Saturday (March 7) at 8 pm, musicians from CalArts and USC team up to perform new chamber orchestra works by five local composers. The free event, A Breath of Polysemy, will be held at Le Studio LA, and also features artists creating live, visual improvisations throughout the space during the performances.  The concert’s title “polysemy” describes what organizers hope their concert-goers will experience—an evening of “many senses.”

The combined orchestra, led by Montréal-based conductor Maximilien Brisson, plays in a more relaxed atmosphere than a traditional chamber orchestra concert setting. More from Le Studio LA:

Chairs, pillows, and blankets are strewn about amongst the artists. You are free to experience everything at will. We are dispelling the formality expected from concerts and galleries. These are living, breathing, interrelated art forms, so come enjoy!

Two of the five composers are CalArts students: Rhiannon Ledwell (Music BFA 15) and Justin Scheid (Music MFA 15). Joining them are Los Angeles composers Daniel Lemer, Vincent L. Pratte and Austin Chanu. The evening’s visual artists include Zachary Aronson (Art BFA 13, Theater MFA 15), Sanjina Azad (Art BFA 16) and Scott Lee (Art BFA 17).
