Dance Camera West’s 14th Annual Dance Media Festival is in full swing in various locations all over Los Angeles, and CalArts joins the celebration with a screening of the winning films from the 2nd Annual CalArts@ Dance Camera West Emerging Artists Competition at Roy and Edna Disney/CalArts Theater (REDCAT) on Sunday (May 3).
The Emerging Artists Competition recognizes high school and college students who create dance media. The winning college films receive a cash prize and the winning high school film receives a CalArts scholarship prize, pending acceptance to The Sharon Disney Lund School of Dance at CalArts.

This year’s winners are:
- Kynan Welsh’s METEOR, first place, college category
- Kym McDaniel’s Groundswell, second place, college category
- Hannah Kaufman’s Togettotheotherside, first place, high school category
- Theo Taplitz’s tap tap tap, honorable mention, high school category
Also on the program at REDCAT are the dance films Jiri Kylian: Forgotten Memories, Continuum and Born To Fly: Elizabeth Streb vs. Gravity.
Dance Camera West is a nonprofit organization that seeks to unite Los Angeles’ influential filmmaking community with its local dance populace. Its Annual Dance Media Festival presents a series of live events and more than 30 films that engage with movement and dance to the community.
